The recent controversy with relation to the suggested removal of 'Under God' from the Pledge of Allegiance is quite disturbing. Disturbing because people are so offended by the suggestion of it. It often comes down to people yelling about how the majority of people in the U.S. are Christian, and that the original intention of the 'Freedom of Religion' wasn't freedom FROM religion, or simply that separation of church and state can be maintained with all the current occurrences of it in our current governmental processes. |

The most recent supreme court session will be hearing several issues of note. The California "Three strikes" law, that says upon the conviction for three felonies in the state of California, 25 years to life is the only applicable sentence available to judges. A double jeopardy case regarding a man convicted of murder and sentenced to life, who appealed and had the sentence successfully thrown out pending retrial, and during retrial was again convicted, but this time the jury gave him the death penalty. And finally, the State of Virginia law that says that cross burning is criminal, without exception, even if done on your own property. |

So the new Star Wars movie is coming out. People keep asking me when I'm going to see it. Well, I'm not. Fuck Lucas and Fuck his masturbatory merchandizing machine.
The first three were great. Ahem. GREAT. A great story, good players, fun, and funny without being too goofy. And for any naysayer who claims that "Return of the Jedi" was ass'y because of the Ewok's instead of the Wookies, bite me. All three were great, and enhanced my childhood, adolescence, and adulthood tremendously. |

I was watching the Top 100 Child Actors on VH1 the other day. I could explain that it was a very slow day, and it probably was, but even in the face of that, I watch pointless pop-culture crap like this sometimes. It's a guilty pleasure of mine and I make no excuses. Regardless, they were going through the list of stars and they got to Tatum O'Neal
I had heard of Tatum O'Neal as the daughter of Ryan and thats about it. I had also seen her on the IFC show, Ultimate Film Fanatic (more on this later), but I digress. The VH1 show was reviewing clips of her role in "Paper Moon" as Addie Pray, a young orphan who gets put into the temporary care of a professional grifter, played by her real life father. Now I didn't know anything about this film prior to that showing, but there was something about the look and feel of the film style that made it appealing to me. I made a mental note to see if my local BlockBuster had the film available for rent the next time I was in. |

So...the FCC is beginning it's crackdown on Cable television. FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin, after reviewing a recent episode of "Keen Eddie" wherein a prostitute is hired to extract semen from a horse, off screen she lifts her shirt and the horse dies. I am unfamiliar with the show, so perhaps animal husbandry is a recurring theme. And prostitutes. Maybe they're a running theme too. Regardless, Mr. Martin wrote the following, prior to his being made the FCC Chairman:
"Despite my colleagues' assurance that there appeared to be a safe distance between the prostitute and the horse, I remain uncomfortable."
These are the words of the newest FCC Chairman. Now, I'm no psychologist, but if that doesn't just scream, "I want to have sex with a Horse", I don't know what does. |

I'm reprinting, without premission, a letter sent to the JREF (James Randi Educational Foundation). I enjoyed it and some of the points it made. The original can be found here, for those interested.
President Bush has today, September 16th, designated as a "Day of Prayer."
